Social media doesn’t have to be scary. Just like the first time you used a smart phone or the first time you used a new computer, you need to take the time to acquire the necessary skills to make it an effective tool for you.
Here are a few tips to get you moving in the right direction:
- Determine what you are selling. Although you may think this is a simple answer, take it a step further. For example, if you are selling flowers you may really be selling enjoyment, surprise and joy. You want the recipient to be thrilled with the flowers they receive and more importantly, you want the purchaser to feel like they were treated with excellent customer service and received a fair price. Consider how you will create that experience with with your social media accounts.
- Determine who you are selling to. Knowing your target market is a very effective tool for determining how to market to them. If you are trying to reach senior citizens, you need to advertise on programs they watch or in publications they read. Social media may not be the best channel to reach them.
- Determine what online presence you want to have. Most companies want to have an online “conversation” with their customers. This builds trust and allows them to ask questions before they purchase. Customers buy from those they know and trust, so by establishing a reputable online presence you are earning their business.
